Reasons Women Choose to Have a Breast Augmentation with Dr. Feledy Near Woodbridge, Virginia

As a seasoned breast augmentation surgeon who specializes in performing breast enhancement procedures, Dr. Feledy has the knowledge, artistic vision and skill necessary to help women desiring larger breasts reach their goals. With a breast augmentation, Dr. Jules Feledy enhances his patients’ breasts using high-quality, FDA-approved breast implants.

What Kinds of Breast Implants Are Available?

At Belmont Plastic Surgery in Stafford, Virginia, near Woodbridge, patients can choose from silicone and saline breast implants, including the highly sought-after gummy bear breast implants (aka highly-cohesive silicone gel implants).

Other implant variables include:

  • Implant size – projection and diameter (both of which affect the patient’s final breast volume).
  • Implant texture – textured or smooth.
  • Implant shape – anatomical (aka tear-drop shaped) or round.

What is the Difference Between Saline and Silicone Breast Implants?

Silicone breast implants offer women a way to increase the size of their breasts while still maintaining a natural feel. Saline breast implants are significantly less expensive than silicone breast implants, however, saline implants are more easily felt beneath the skin than silicone breast implants are: This is especially true when they are placed for women who are quite thin with naturally small breasts.

Silicone breast implants arrive at Belmont Plastic Surgery in Stafford, Virginia, near Woodbridge, ready to be inserted. Saline breast implants differ in that their shells arrive empty and are filled with salt water after being inserted into the pockets that Dr. Feledy creates for them during the procedure.

While performing a breast augmentation using silicone implants, Dr. Feledy makes sure that the implants are correctly aligned with the patient’s nipple-areolar complexes.

When saline breast implants are used, Dr. Jules Feledy carefully compares the size, shape and location of the implants to ensure that the patient’s breasts are symmetrical.

Other Breast Augmentation Options: Implant Placement and Incision Sites

Implant Placement Options

The breast implants are placed within a pocket that Dr. Feledy creates either submuscularly or subglandularly.

If Dr. Feledy places the implant in a pocket that he creates just beneath the breast tissue, the implant is placed subglandularly.

If Dr. Feledy creates the implant’s pocket beneath both the breast tissue and the pectoral muscle (aka chest muscle), the implant is placed submuscularly. When a patient does not have an adequate amount of breast tissue to cover the implant, it will be placed submuscularly. Submuscular placement reduces the likelihood that the breast implant will be palpable.

Incision Site Options

Since Dr. Feledy is a breast enhancement specialist, any incisions he creates during the breast augmentation procedure are well hidden within the body’s natural folds, or at the junction of the nipple-areolar complex.

Incision options include:

  • Periareolar – this incision is strategically created around the nipple-areolar complex. The areola is the darker skin that surrounds the nipple. Since this area is darker than the rest of the breast, it can hide the resulting scar quite well.
  • Transaxillary – this incision is created within the patient’s underarm, which prevents scars from developing anywhere on the patient’s breast.
  • Inframammary – Dr. Feledy creates this breast augmentation incision within the crease at the base of the breast.

How Does Dr. Jules Feledy Perform a Breast Augmentation?

As it is with the majority of plastic surgery procedures, a breast augmentation can be performed in a variety of ways. The details of your customized surgical procedure are discussed with you at your pre-surgical appointment.

1. Pre-Op

Prior to the breast augmentation, Dr. Jules Feledy visits the patient in pre-op. He makes various markings on the patient’s breasts, which he uses as a guide during her surgical procedure. Patients are encouraged to ask any last-minute questions they have about their procedure, recovery, etc.

2. Anesthesia

The patient receives general anesthesia, which puts her to sleep.

3. Creating the Incisions

Dr. Jules Feledy creates the incision in the previously discussed area (e.g., periareolar, inframammary or transaxillary).

4. Pocket Creation

After creating the incision, Dr. Feledy makes the pocket for the breast implant. This pocket is made subglandularly or submuscularly.

5. Implant Placement

The breast implant is placed within its pocket. If the implant is saline, Dr. Feledy fills the shell with the salt water. He will fill it with the number of ccs that the patient desires.

If the implant is silicone, Dr. Feledy just needs to place it within the pocket he creates.

6. Ensuring Implant Symmetry

Prior to closing the breast augmentation incisions, Dr. Feledy compares the patient’s newly augmented breasts to ensure that they are symmetrical.

7. Closing the Incisions

Once he is happy with the result, Dr. Feledy closes the incisions using stitches, surgical tape and/or some type of skin adhesive.

8. Placing the Gauze and/or Surgical Bra

After closing the incisions, a surgical bra and/or gauze bandage may be applied.

9. The Recovery Room

The patient is taken to recovery, which is where she remains until she awakes and is ready to go home. At that point, she is released to her driver.

Patients should expect to experience a significant amount of discomfort for the first few days after their breast augmentation, however, Dr. Jules Feledy provides his patients with prescription pain killers to help them feel more comfortable during this time. In addition, patients may receive a prescription for an antibiotic. It is crucial that patients take their antibiotic as directed and complete the entire contents of the bottle, otherwise, patients are putting themselves at risk for developing an infection.

What to Expect as You Recover from a Breast Augmentation Near Woodbridge, Virginia

Upon waking in recovery, postoperative instructions will be given to you and your driver. Someone needs to remain with you for the initial 24 hours following your breast augmentation. If you can have someone remain with you for several days, that would be ideal.

Very little wound care is necessary; however, you will need to take it easy for the first week. Increasing your heart rate and raising your blood pressure during this time could lead to unnecessary bleeding around your breast implants.

For most of Dr. Feledy’s breast augmentation patients, the inflammation and discomfort they experience following their surgery resolves by the end of the first week. However, if you have increased your breast size substantially, a longer period of discomfort is possible.

After four weeks, you should be able to resume all activities.

Risks Associated with Breast Augmentation Procedures

Every surgery carries its own risks and a breast augmentation near Woodbridge, Virginia, is no different.

Potential complications include:

  • Anesthesia complications. If you have previously experienced complications during or following the use of general anesthesia, please let Dr. Feledy know during your initial consultation. For example, some patients experience nausea upon waking, a symptom that can be addressed prior to its onset.
  • Excessive bleeding.
  • Slow wound healing.
  • Changes in the feelings associated with the nipples and/or breasts (e.g., numbness).
  • Infection.
  • Hematoma formation.
  • Capsular contracture. The good news is that innovative implant placement techniques and new implant designs have led to a substantial decrease in the number of women who experience capsular contracture.
  • Abnormal positioning of the implant.
  • Skin wrinkling over the implant.
  • An accumulation of fluid beneath the skin (seroma).
  • The need for a revision surgery.
  • A ruptured or leaking breast implant.
  • Anaplastic large cell carcinoma. This complication is exceedingly rare and is only associated with textured breast implants. Should this complication occur, the implant and its capsule just need to be removed.
  • Persistent pain.
