Non-Invasive Sculpting

EMSCULPT IS FDA-APPROVED

EMSCULPTĀ® is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment designed to sculpt certain areas of the body. This non-invasive, fat-reduction treatment is the first of its kind: Offering patients a way to slim down and tone their muscles, effortlessly. This treatment is touted for its impressive fat burning and muscle toning properties. Furthermore, after a treatment with EMSCULPT Washington DC patients can return to their normal activities immediately. Washington DC plastic surgeon, Dr. Jules Feledy, offers this innovative treatment to help his patients attain the body characteristics they desire.

Tighter, More Defined Muscles

EMSCULPT Causes the Targeted Muscles to Contract

EMSCULPT uses electromagnetic energy to make the targeted muscles contract: These contractions are much stronger than the contractions the body creates, which is why they are referred to as super maximal contractions.

The electromagnetic energy induces the targeted muscles to fully contract 20,000 times in a 30-minute session. These extreme conditions force the muscle tissue to adapt. The tissue responds by remodeling its inner structure. An individual would never be able to create these extreme conditions through active exercise alone and the conditions are what leads to the building of muscles and burning of fat.

These treatments sculpt the body, providing the patient with beautifully-contoured and slimmer-looking physical characteristics. When used on the abdomen, the muscle contractions that EMSCULPT causes creates a more defined, tighter core. If the gluteus maximus muscles are targeted, once they complete their treatments, patients enjoy fuller-looking, uplifted buttocks. In addition, this treatment is beneficial to those who want to define the muscles and eliminate some of the excess fat in their upper arms, calves and thighs. Patients who receive treatment at Belmont Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, Maryland, near Washington, DC, just lie back and relax while EMSCULPT does all the work: No sweating required.

Tone and Strengthen

What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated with EMSCULPT?

The FDA has approved EMSCULPT for the firming, toning and strengthening of the buttocks, calves, thighs, arms and the abdomen.

Superior Results

EMSCULPT can:

  • Reduce the amount of localized fat in the treatment areas.
  • Sculpt and tone abdominal muscles.
  • Firm and lift the buttocks.
  • Tone the arms and the legs.
  • Assist patients as they recover from certain kinds of injuries.

This treatment delivers body-contouring results that are superior to those achieved with the other non-invasive, body-shaping therapies that are currently available.

The recommended program is four EMSCULPT treatments over a two-week period; therefore, patients can expect their total treatment cost to be somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000.

How Does the EMSCULPT Process Eliminates Fat?

As the muscles quickly contract, they need to be fed. The local fat provides the targeted muscles with the calories they need to continue contracting. It is important to note that these treatments are not meant to be used for weight loss: These treatments are ideal for those who are already close to their targeted body weight and just want to enhance their contours.

Ideal Candidates

Who Should Consider Having EMSCULPT Treatments?

As with any treatment or procedure, EMSCULPT is not the solution for everyone. For example, an individual who has excess, generalized body fat will not see much of a difference following one of these treatments; therefore, the ideal candidate for this treatment is someone who is relatively fit and slim. The candidate should be interested in lifting his or her buttocks and/or achieving abdomen definition. Since these treatments help to define the muscles, many patients who have been trying to create the highly sought-after abdominal six-pack are able to attain it with these treatments. Patients who are interested in attaining definition in their upper arms, calves and/or thighs may also want to consider having EMSCULPT treatments at Belmont Plastic Surgery, near Washington, DC.

Is There Any Reason an Individual Should Avoid EMSCULPT Treatments?

An individual who has a metal or an electronic implant (e.g., a pacemaker) located anywhere within the body is not necessarily a good candidate for an EMSCULPT procedure; however, if a patient who has one of these implants would still like to have this treatment, he or she needs to speak with his or her treating physician. The physician can help determine if the patient is a good candidate for treatment. Individuals who have a history of muscle issues (e.g., complicated hernias) are not suitable for this treatment.

What to Expect

What EMSCULPT Patients Should Expect

While the EMSCULPT treatment paddles are applied to the target area, the patient lies back and relaxes. As the patient relaxes, the muscles in the targeted area will begin to contract; therefore, to some extent, it will feel like an intense workout in the area being targeted.

Short Sessions, Lasting Treatment

How Long Does an EMSCULPT Treatment Session Last?

Each treatment session lasts for 30 minutes. Since only one area of the body can be targeted at a time, patients who are having more than one area treated will need multiple sessions. For example, a patient who is having his or her abdomen and buttocks treated will require two 30-minute sessions.

EMSCULPT Results

How Many EMSCULPT Treatments Does it Take to Achieve Optimal Results?

The ideal treatment protocol is four sessions (per treatment area) within a two-week time frame, with each of these sessions spaced two or three days apart.

When Will the EMSCULPT Results Become Evident?

Directly following an EMSCULPT treatment, patients feel the results; however, visual results take some time to develop. Typically, patients see positive results within two to four weeks after their last treatment session and this improvement continues for several weeks. Therefore, an individual residing in the Washington, DC area, who is using EMSCULPT treatments to prepare for a special event or occasion (e.g., a wedding, vacation or reunion, etc.) should begin treatment approximately three months before the occasion/event.

Look and Feel Great

EMSCULPT Results

After completing the four treatments over a two-week period, the patient's body will look and feel as if he or she spent a lot of time working out with a personal trainer. In addition, the benefits mimic what one would achieve eating a healthy diet and limiting fat intake for six months to a year.

Reduce Fat, Stay Healthy

Fat Reduction and Muscle Hypertrophy

On average, patients can expect a 19% reduction in the amount of fat and a 16% increase in muscle hypertrophy in the areas treated. Following treatment, many EMSCULPT patients feel motivated to work harder so they remain physically fit and healthy. One of the best motivators following these treatments seems to be the abdominal six-pack. People who have been exercising their entire lives in hopes of creating an abdominal six-pack are thrilled when their treatments accomplish this for them.

Lasting Results

How Long Will the EMSCULPT Results Last?

The patient's lifestyle plays a major role in how long the results last. Some patients choose to have these treatments and then maintain their body through diet and by incorporating a lot of core-strengthening exercises into their workout routines. These patients can expect their results to last a long time, maybe permanently. Without working the core muscles, fat can slowly begin returning to the treated areas and a maintenance session will be required. Some of Dr. Feledy’s Washington, DC, EMSCULPT patients choose to receive their initial set of treatments and then just return to Belmont Plastic Surgery for another set of treatments once they see that their results are diminishing.

Additional Reading

Maintenance treatments are less frequent than the initial two-week treatment process. As each patient is unique, determining how frequently maintenance treatments will be necessary is challenging; therefore, some patients choose to have maintenance treatments annually; whereas, other patients choose to come in for treatment every two years. Ultimately, how frequently maintenance treatments are performed is up to the patient and depends on the results the he or she desires. With maintenance treatments, results are visible immediately and will continue to improve over a period of several months.

Are There Any Side Effects Associated with EMSCULPT Treatments?

The most common side effect associated with this treatment is minor soreness; however, while rare, some patients state that they feel fatigued following their treatment sessions. They say they feel as if they just completed a strenuous workout. The reason patients only experience minor soreness following these treatments is because EMSCULPT treatments help clear the lactic acid that has built up in the muscles. It is this lactic acid that is responsible for causing muscle soreness; therefore, by clearing out the lactic acid, EMSCULPT prevents patients from becoming extremely sore. Following an EMSCULPT treatment, there is no downtime. Patients resume their daily activities immediately.
