Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) in Washington, DC

The Brazilian Butt Lift is often chosen by women who feel that larger buttocks would balance or enhance their body proportions by reducing their waist-to-hip ratio without increasing overall body mass. A Brazilian Butt Lift is less invasive than buttock augmentation, which uses artificial implants.

Washington, DC Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
Today, well-rounded, fuller buttocks are much more desirable than a flat backside is. This desire to have a plump backside has led to the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) becoming one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures for men and women in the United States. This procedure provides individuals who would like a plump, shapelier set of buttocks a way to attain that round, more defined derriere they desire, without the need to insert butt implants. During a BBL procedure, Dr. Jules Feledy uses the patient’s own fat, which is collected from another area of the body, to modify his or her buttocks.
What Causes the Flat-looking Buttocks that a BBL in Washington, DC, Can Address?
For some men and women, even their best efforts have little to no effect on the shape, volume and firmness of their buttocks, this may be because, although flat buttocks can result from weight fluctuations, it can also occur due to genetics and as part of the natural aging process. Therefore, if you have been trying to change the size, shape and/or firmness of your buttocks to no avail, and you would like a more natural solution than the insertion of butt implants, a Brazilian butt lift may be the answer for you. With a BBL, Dr. Feledy can effectively augment and contour your buttocks to make them plumper and well-rounded.
What is the Difference Between a Brazilian Butt Lift and a Buttock Augmentation?
Just like the BBL, a buttock augmentation is used to increase the fullness of the buttocks, however, since butt implants are inserted during this procedure, it is more invasive and the healing process can be lengthy.
During a buttock augmentation procedure, Dr. Jules Feledy inserts a silicone prosthesis (i.e., butt implant) into each of the patient’s buttocks. While butt implants do offer patients a great way to shape and enhance their backsides, as time passes, these implants may shift. Furthermore, people who tend to sit for long periods of time and those who are extremely active may experience discomfort due to the shifting of their implants. In addition, shifted implants can result in an unappealing appearance.
Why Would Someone Want to Have a Brazilian Butt Lift?
An individual may decide to have a BBL to reduce the pockets of fat that he or she has accumulated on the thighs, hips, lower back and/or abdomen, while attaining the fuller, well-rounded buttocks they desire.
A Brazilian butt lift also enhances the curves of the lower body and creates a more youthful-looking, proportionate shape between the patient’s upper and lower body. This body-contouring procedure is ideal for individuals who are interested in obtaining a shapelier set of buttocks, reducing the amount of fat they have on their hips, thighs and abdomen as well as would like to improve their overall body shape.
A woman may decide to have a BBL because she feels that larger buttocks could enhance and/or balance her body proportions by reducing her waist-to-hip ratio without the need to increase her overall body mass.
What Can a Brazilian Butt Lift Accomplish?
A BBL can be used to augment the projection and size of the buttocks, which ultimately improves the patient’s overall physique. At Belmont Plastic Surgery, Dr. Feledy performs a Brazilian butt lift to add volume to and sculpt the glutes, tighten the skin as well as to improve the proportions and contours of the patient’s buttocks.
How Does Dr. Jules Feledy Use a Brazilian Butt Lift in Washington, DC, to Create Fuller Buttocks?
The BBL is a combination procedure that utilizes liposuction and liposculpture techniques to provide a patient with the rounder buttocks he or she desires. During a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Feledy performs liposuction. Liposuction is the procedure that Dr. Feledy uses to harvest fat from several areas of the patient’s body. Once he harvests the fat, Dr. Jules Feledy purifies it before he transfers it into targeted areas of the patient’s glutes.
Choosing a Surgeon to Perform Your BBL in Washington, DC
Individuals who are interested in having a Brazilian butt lift need to find a plastic surgeon who has experience performing this procedure. Even when a surgeon is familiar with liposuction and liposculpture, if he or she is not experienced with performing the BBL procedure, caution is advised because the liposuction procedure used during a Brazilian butt lift in Washington, DC, requires that the surgeon use a much gentler technique when harvesting the fat than is necessary when performing a traditional liposuction procedure.
To perform this gentler technique, Dr. Feledy reduces the power of the suction on his liposuction machine and moves at a slower pace while harvesting the fat. Furthermore, during the fat transfer process, if the surgeon injects the purified fat too deeply into the patient’s glutes, complications can result. Perfecting the BBL procedure requires that the surgeon have exceptional artistic ability and technical skill. Dr. Jules Feledy has the experience, artistic vision and technical skill necessary to provide individuals in and around Washington, DC, with a beautifully-sculpted, plump and symmetrical set of buttocks.
Who Should Consider Having a Brazilian Butt Lift in Washington, DC?
Although it is essential for the patient to have enough fat cells in the harvesting areas (abdomen, thighs, lower back and/or hips) as well as good skin elasticity, there is not a specific ‘body type’ required for an individual to be a good candidate for this procedure. That said, Dr. Feledy does prefer that his Brazilian butt lift patients are no more than 30 pounds over their recommended body weight.
If you are in excellent physical and mental health, at least 18 years old, and have unwanted fat that you would like transferred to your buttocks, this procedure may be for you. To learn more, contact Belmont Plastic Surgery at (301) 654-5666 to schedule an initial consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jules Feledy.
Who is Not a Good Candidate for a Washington, DC, BBL?
Individuals who have very limited fat to harvest and purify are not generally very good candidates for this procedure. In addition, if the patient has skin that is wrinkled, loose and/or sagging, he or she may need to have a surgical butt lift as opposed to a BBL.

Preparing for a Brazilian Butt Lift in Washington, DC
You may be asked to have some routine blood work done and to visit your general practitioner to be approved for surgery. Since you are receiving general anesthesia during your Brazilian butt lift, you are not permitted to drive yourself home after your procedure, therefore, you will need to bring a licensed driver with you on the day of your surgery: Your driver needs to be at least 18 years old. In addition, since you will be somewhat groggy, you may also want to ask someone to stay with you through the night on the day of your procedure.
A Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure at Belmont Plastic Surgery with Dr. Jules Feledy
This procedure can last from one and a half to three hours: The length of time that you will be in the procedure room depends on your body structure, what you would like Dr. Feledy to accomplish and the complexity of your personalized procedure.
While you are in the pre-op area, Dr. Feledy will come in to answer any last-minute questions that you have.
1. Anesthesia is Administered
A combination of local and general anesthesia – when this combination of anesthesia is used, the patient sleeps throughout the procedure. Once you are moved into the procedure room, anesthesia is administered and you will fall asleep.
2. Your Gluteal Area and Harvest Sites Are Marked
While referring to your personalized surgical plan, Dr. Feledy uses a medical marker to create himself a guide to use during surgery.
3. Disinfecting the Surgical Sites
Your buttocks as well as the sites being used for harvesting are disinfected.
4. Creating the Incisions
The small incisions that will be used for harvesting fat are created. These incisions allow Dr. Feledy to insert a cannula, which is a thin tube that is used to extract the fat and tissues that will be used during the grafting process.
5. The Liposuction Procedure Begins
The cannula is gently inserted through the small incisions that Dr. Feledy created. He uses the cannula to carefully dislodge the fat within the harvest sites. The loosened fat is gently suctioned out.
6. The Purification Process
The fat that is extracted is never subjected to the air because the tissue is placed into a sterile centrifuge directly after extraction. This purification process is used to maximize the concentration of viable fat cells and to ensure that the fat cells injected are of the highest quality. Once the fat is purified, the viable tissue is harvested and placed into syringes.
7. During the Same Surgical Procedure, the Liposuction and Purification Process May Need to Be Performed More Than Once
After the purification process is complete, the purified fat is prepared for insertion into the buttocks. However, Dr. Feledy may need to perform the liposuction procedure and purification process a few times during your BBL procedure to ensure he has an adequate amount of fat to inject.
8. The Grafting Process
After extracting, purifying and preparing the harvested fat for injection, Dr. Feledy will use his artistic vision, skill and experience to strategically inject the fat. The fat must be injected layer by layer into the areas of the buttocks that will create you the beautifully-contoured, plump buttocks that you desire.
Following each injection, the area is gently massaged so that the surface of the skin remains smooth. Dr. Feledy continues the grafting process until he believes your final result will provide you with buttocks that are the size and shape you desire. Please remember: Initially, your buttocks may be slightly larger because it is normal for a certain amount of the fat cells to die off.
9. An Overall Review
After reviewing his work, Dr. Jules Feledy will take measurements of your buttocks. He will then disinfect and clean the areas where the incisions were created and the purified fat was injected.
10. Closing the Incisions
The incisions will be closed using either adhesives or stitches.
11. The Compression Garment is Placed
You will be placed in a compression garment. This garment compresses the areas that were treated with liposuction, which provides support for your new, slimmer shape.
12. The Recovery Area
You will be taken to the recovery area. Once you awaken, Dr. Jules Feledy will check your incisions, apply bandages (if necessary) and then release you to your driver.
Before you leave the recovery area and head home, you will receive information about caring for your incisions. In addition, the date and time of your follow-up visit may be listed on your discharge papers.
What to Expect as You Recover from Your BBL Procedure
As you recover, it is essential that you remember there is more than one area of your body that is healing itself: the location(s) where the fat was harvested and your newly augmented buttocks. Each of these regions will have some inflammation and bruising, which may cause you discomfort. By wearing your compression garment, you will be able to reduce some of the swelling. Once the inflammation decreases, it should help with any discomfort you are feeling. You may also receive a prescription for pain medication to assist with this discomfort.
Some patients experience a temporary loss of sensation after their BBL, this is normal and usually diminishes rather quickly.
Also, after your Brazilian butt lift in Washington, DC, you need to keep from placing weight on your buttocks for approximately two weeks. If you do sit for a few minutes, you must avoid sitting on hard surfaces. In addition, you need to sleep on your side or your stomach, not on your back.
Following these instructions is vital to the success of your BBL as each of these could result in fat reabsorption, or displacement, which will cause your buttocks to decrease in size and change its overall shape.
Taking short walks can help reduce inflammation and promote blood flow to the buttocks, which aids in the healing process, therefore, try to include this activity in your daily routine.
Most of Dr. Feledy’s patients are able to return to work/school two weeks after their Brazilian butt lift procedure.
Since full recovery from a Brazilian butt lift can take up to 10 weeks, some patients find it helpful to purchase a donut-shaped pillow to sit on because this allows them to keep pressure off their buttocks.
It is essential that you keep your follow-up appointment at Belmont Plastic Surgery. During this appointment, if you have stitches, Dr. Jules Feledy will remove them. He will also examine your incisions to ensure the healing process is well under way.
When Will I See the Results of My Washington, DC, Brazilian Butt Lift?
Once the swelling has dissipated, you will begin to see the results of your BBL. In most cases, the full results become evident at some point during the 4-6 week mark of the procedure.
When your results become visible, you will notice that your buttocks look round and shapely. In addition, the body parts where Dr. Feledy harvested the fat from will appear smaller, consequently, making your Brazilian butt lift outcome appear that much more dramatic.
How Long Do the Results Attained During a BBL in Washington, DC, Last?
The longevity of the results achieved during a Brazilian butt lift is related directly to the expertise of the surgeon performing the procedure. It is normal for some of the fat that was transferred to reabsorb, however, when an experienced plastic surgeon performs the BBL procedure, permanent transfer rates of up to 80 percent are possible.
Once the fat cells are removed from the harvesting areas, the body will not replace them, therefore, those cells are gone from those areas, indefinitely.
The fat cells that survive the transfer will remain in the buttocks and continue to function for years, possibly for the rest of your life. However, maintaining a stable weight is essential because substantial weight fluctuations can negatively affect your BBL results.
Are There Any Risks or Complications Associated with a Brazilian Butt Lift?
All procedures carry some type of risk and the potential for complications.
When it comes to the BBL, potential risks and complications include, but are not limited to:
- Irregular contouring.
- A fat embolism.
The Importance of Choosing an Experienced and Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
Due to the demand for these procedures, some surgeons who are not necessarily qualified to perform the BBL are offering the procedure anyway. Unfortunately, their lower prices have been luring patients in, and, as these unqualified and inexperienced surgeons perform these procedures, their patients are experiencing post-surgical complications – more complications than has been seen with any other type of cosmetic procedure.
Plastic surgeons who lack experience in performing BBLs have been known to inject the purified fat into the muscles, which can cause what is referred to as fat emboli. Fat emboli occurs when fat particles travel through the circulatory system. If these particles become lodged within a blood vessel, they can block the flow of blood. When this complication occurs, it is referred to as a fat embolism. A fat embolism is very dangerous and can even be fatal.
The risk of experiencing a fat embolism makes it clear that besides having the appropriate training and experience performing Brazilian butt lift procedures, the surgeon you choose must also have an intimate understanding of the body’s functional systems. For this reason, choosing an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Jules Feledy to perform your Brazilian butt lift is vital.
Factors That Dr. Feledy Takes into Consideration Before Each BBL Procedure
Besides following the routine hygiene practices and surgical safety precautions, there are several unique factors relating specifically to the Brazilian butt lift procedure that must be considered.
These considerations include:
- The amount of fat that can be safely removed.
- How deep the fat can be injected.
- Where the fat is injected.
- How much fat can be injected, safely.
Although you may think that your buttocks consist mostly of fat, there are a lot of underlying structures and musculature that an inexperienced plastic surgeon can compromise using the incorrect technique for transferring fat or transferring too much fat at once.
During the grafting process, the purified fat should be injected no deeper than the subcutaneous layer of existing fat. If too much fat is injected, or the fat is injected deeper than it should be, the patient is now at risk for developing a fat embolism.
How Much Does a Belmont Plastic Surgery Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?
The cost for a BBL varies with each patient and depends on what he or she would like to accomplish with the procedure. The only way that Dr. Feledy can provide you with a quote is if he has the opportunity to speak with you and examine your buttocks. Contact the office today at (301) 654-5666 to schedule your appointment with one of the top plastic surgeons in the Washington, DC, area.
Will My Health Insurance Cover a BBL?
Unfortunately, a Brazilian butt lift is a cosmetic procedure, therefore, your health insurance will not cover it. However, Dr. Jules Feledy knows that it can be difficult for patients to come up with the funds to have their elective surgeries, for this reason, he offers patients the opportunity to apply for ALPHAEON CREDIT or CareCredit. By offering these payment plans to his patients, Dr. Feledy can go ahead and perform their cosmetic procedure, and the patient can pay for their procedure over time.
